Stitch And Glue Vs Strip Built






Building stitch-and-glue is definitely easier and more "forgiving" for a novice. my advice: get stitch and glue experience, then adventure into strip-built. i've seen some "hybrids" -- kayaks which had planked (stitch and glue) hulls and stripper decks -- the best of both worlds.. Please explain the pro's and con's of stitch and glue vs. cedar strip construction. it is clear that s & g is quicker and probably makes a lighter boat, but beyond that? is one stronger, easier to repair. does one allow you to build a better designed boat? what are the maintenende and care issues with a wood kayak? although i have been a professional furniture maker, i have zero boat building. Strip or stitch and glue. advice. other-gear. system. october 15, 2019, 5:20pm #1. according to nick schade, author of “the strip built kayak” the strip boat will flex more than a comparable plywood or fiberglass boat such as when hitting a rock, although i don’t know of anyone wanting to use their boat to test that theory!.
